Steve became a member of IAATI in 1984 when he joined the Northeast Chapter as a representative of the Sûreté du Québec. He became actively involved in the administration of the Chapter culminating with his service as president during 1993. His dedicated spirit and leadership qualities did not go un-noticed at the international level. He served on the Association’s board of executives, moved through the vice-presidential chairs, and served as president from 1996 – 1997. His ability to inspire others and still maintain exceptional attention to detail is
unsurpassed, always with the Association and its members prominent in his thought focus. In 2003 when IAATI found itself in need of a replacement for APB Newsletter Editor Jim
Spanel, who had resigned due to his law enforcement retirement. Steve answered the call and has been the APB Newsletter Editor until his recent resignation. While IAATI’s newsletter has evolved over the years, the dedication required of the individual(s) tasked with its formulation, editing, publishing, and getting it to the reader should never be underestimated. It is doubtful that many members, including some who have been a part of the board of executives have an in-depth understanding of what it takes to publish each edition. Steve dedicated himself to the members, the readers of the APB. As IAATI’s global footprint has expanded, so has each branch and chapters’ desire for APB coverage. Somehow, Steve has simultaneously satisfied the needs of the branches and chapters, maintained the united focus of the Association, incorporated seminar sponsors and supporters, and presented an interesting, informative, and stimulating publication. As the
newsletter has evolved, so has the method of publication and the need for more specific coordination between Steve and the publisher, graphic designers, etc. Steve began his planning for an issue over a year in advance. He was constantly in search of unique and timely articles, features, and photographs. It was Steve who visualized providing space for sponsors and donors. He obtained the pertinent information from award committees, and painstakingly made sure he had the recipient names correctly associated with the photos. He spent hours reviewing each issue both before he sent it to the publisher and after a draft was returned. Steve has delivered long and faithful service to IAATI at various levels within the organization. At each, he has demonstrated an excellence and professionalism, and mission focused, with the best of the Association in mind without fail. He has provided extraordinary service to the Association, far exceeding member expectations, reflecting  sincere dedication, worthy of this most distinctive recognition.
